Man V. Bar
Just got this tip yesterday from a lovely reader who knows very well how much we love cheap booze and bar crawls (shocked we didn’t know about it before, this is like our pilgrimage!): This Saturday drink yourself into a silly stupor while supporting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at Man V. Bar (#6!) in Santa Monica! Or in our case: Woman v. Bar. Either way, we will go into this fight swinging and hope to come out alive, maybe a little blacked-out, but still alive.
.
What: Man V. Bar 6
When: Saturday, 9/10/11, Noon
Where: On-And-Around the 3rd Street Promenade (Starting at The Yard)
Cost: $20 Donation (Proceeds go to aforementioned Leukemia & Lymphoma Society)
What it gets ya: A giant bar crawl with your fellow, charitable, drunkards featuring food and drink specials at some great Santa Monica Spots.
.
The first stop on the schedule is at Top Chef CJ’s spot, The Yard. Drink and eat from noon – 1:15pm with a menu of cheap booze ($3 Beers, $5 Wine, $5 Cosmos & Margs) and cheap eats ($6 mini pulled pork sammiches, fish tacos, sliders, and fried calamari + $5 Sauteed greens.) We’ve had The Yard bar food before and loved every bite of it, espeically the pulled pork sliders. A good spot to carb up for the rest of your boozy journey down 3rd.
Next stop (#2) will be just up Broadway and over to 4th: West 4th & Jane. Deals at this beer focused restaurant include $3 Beers and $5 Bubbly. Obviously we would opt for the sparkling beverage, and in multiples.
Third watering hole on the route is Yankee Doodles, which we are not huge fans of simply because its sooooooo touristy. YET we end up here all the time because our crew tends to flock to spots with parlor games and pop-a-shot. Anyway, from 2:30-4pm at YD you can get $1 off draft beers. Or, if you’re winos like us, you can disappear over to Pourtal around the corner and get a good glass of wine and some spanikopita while your guy friends play Dance Dance revolution.
And the final stop on the list if Monsoon Cafe from 4-6:3opm. DJ Monarck will be there (are we supposed to know who all these DJs are that resto’s keep touting???) As far as deals are concerned we’re digging the $4 drafts (Fat Tire, Guiness, etc..), $6 Martinis, $4 Wells, and $4 Wines.
.
And there you have it. 6.5 hours of discounted boozing in Santa Monica. After which you are sure to want to stumble on down to the beach (be careful on those stairs!) and dip your tosies in the water, then pass out on the warm sand.
Good luck!

We have the full downstairs area of Yankee Doodles reserved just for the Crawl, so we’ll be separate from the rest of the “touristy” crowd. Same with Monsoon Cafe, we have the upstairs room reserved just for us! Good times!
