Four Points Belgian Beer Tasting and BBQ

July 19, 2012

The fact that one of the nation’s top beer beer destinations, is an airport hotel, is undoubtedly strange and unexpected.

What the hell are we talking about? Why, the Four Points by Sheraton at LAX, of course. The hotel was included in the Travel Channel’s Top 7 spots for beer. Is the TravelChannel the final say in beer spots? No. But still great kudos for an airport hotel.

However, these kudos are a little less surprising when one realizes that the 4Points is under the SBE umbrella. And thankfully, unlike a typical SBE venue which is all about the scene, long lines, sleezy old men + drunk young ladies (not to bash too hard, we were once part of this scene), the FourPoints has put their money behind promoting great brews and good food.

.

This Friday, enjoy some of the superior selections in beer at The Four Points while you nosh on a BBQ feast by the pool.

As shown in the flyer above, the party starts poolside at 6:30pm and will featuring a Belgian Beer tasting for $30 (price includes parking at the hotel, which can be a pain otherwise). The event will be hosted by Larry James, the ‘Professor of Malt Science’ from the Wine Warehouse. (How do you get a degree in malt science? I want to see his diploma…) Featured beers in the tasting include: Bavik PilsPetrus Aged Pale AleSilly Scotch Ale, PiraatGulden Draak, and Troubadour Magma.

On top of his prestigious beer degree, Larry is also apparently a grill master – as the flyer states you can score plates of his ‘famous’ BBQ for $15 as well.

Definitely a good way to start off your weekend.

And may we suggest a challenge, or a dare, of sorts? Glug glug glug the beer, stuff your face with food, then snag a cheap cab to the airport (or walk) and get on the cheapest flight you can to a random destination. I mean, you’ll be RIGHT there anyway, right?
