We went to the first Singles Soiree earlier this year and it was a blast. There were delicious cocktails, fun people, and some interesting games. Though I failed as a wingwoman and didn’t help V successfully find her mate (probably because we both got pretty boozed up BEFORE the event even started) – we did make some great friends!

A Fiery Fiesta GIVEAWAY

Our boozy amigos over at DrinkEatTravel have teamed up with some great companies to bring this fun event supporting Firefighters this Wednesday:

For those not in the know: GrubHub is a website that connects you with restaurants that deliver in your area. Grubhub doesn’t charge a fee so you wont be paying anymore than you would if you called the restos up yourself, plus you can do it online… on your bed… in your PJs.

Groupon has teamed up with this great company to offer an awesome deal today for NEW GrubHub users – $10 for $20 worth of food delivered direct to your home. So, if you’re not already a user then sign up STAT to take advantage of this deal. The deal will only ‘tip’ if 750 people commit to purchase the certificate, but it’s already at 644 and it’s available through Sunday so it’s got PLENTY of time.

.

If you win – we’ll Tweet ya back with details on how to claim your prize (we’ll need an email address).

Please, just promise us you wont use it tonight – it’s Friday and that would be lame (plus I don’t think its valid tonight anyway – so you’re lame plans have been thwarted by the rules…)

.

Full Details & Rules for this Groupon are available online.

Tweeting Dishes & Taking Names

Two weeks ago I (K) had the most amazing luck.

Just coming back from 4th of July vacay,  I won not one, but TWO, free dinners via online promotions. I was so shocked by my ridiculous luck that I was sure I was due a good car accident the next day, or a nice fall down the stairs, or something to balance out my winning streak back to even. Thankfully two weeks have passed and my car, and body, are still intact.

The coolest thing about winning both of these promotions was it was SO easy – I hardly had to do anything (God this is starting to sound like an infomercial….) Plus they are continuous promotions – so you have a chance to win them too!! Here’s the scoop on how to increase your chances for freebies:

.

Win #1: BLD Tweet-A-Dish

Look – you can be like K!

Every week BLD Restaurant has a contest for their Twitter followers to name the specialty dish they will make each Thursday. Just tweet your dish idea to Chef Diana @BLDchefD (or email to diana@bldrestaurant.com) by Sunday night to enter. If your dish concept is selected – you win a 3-course dinner for yourself + a friend! My winning dish? Pork Chops & Applesauce.

My Dad used to make the dish for me as a kid and I always loved the contrast of cool and sweet applesauce to the savory pork chop, plus this all-American dish seemed perfect for the new-American style cooking going on at BLD.

Pork Chops & Applesauce Ala BLD

Chef Diana’s version of the dish: amazing (perfectly refreshing slaw, incredibly flavorful & savory chop, chunky and sweet applesauce). If you win you still gotta pay for your beverages + tax + tip, but that was fine with me! Ordered a nice bottle of wine + some after dinner drinks & made it a night…

.

Win #2: West Hollywood Insiders Newsletter

Sign up to be a ‘West Hollywood Insider‘ and you’ll automatically be entered into that month’s contest for a free $50 gift certificate to a local WeHo business. Past certificates have been given out for $50 at Chez Bop, Peace Gallery, Lola’s, and Boxwood Cafe at the London, but I got Cecconis and I’m totally stoked to try it out!

Seriously, this one takes no effort to enter and the newsletter is only sent out once a month so you don’t have to worry about tons of WeHo spam filling your inbox. The WeHo Insiders website also features tons of other local dining & retail deals so it’s definitely worth checking out for those too.

Good Luck!

.

P.S. I’m still on the lookout for other great dining/booze freebies – but I’ll probably wait til I’ve won them to tell you. Hey, I might be a super cool and fabulous blogger (ha!), but I still have to pay for 99% of my food – gotta increase my chances for free food/booze before I tell the lot of you!

Outdoor Cinema Food Fest + GIVEAWAY!

(To skip my nostalgic story & go straight to the GiveAway details – scroll to the bottom of the page…)

.

When I was little my parents would take me and my brother to the drive-in movies on weekends.

We’d always pull up in Dad’s yellow Chevy pickup named Maurice & hook up to the drive-in speakers (all cars must have names – my current vehicle is ‘Edith’, as she’s an old dirty bitch).  Then we’d all pile in the bed of the truck, surrounded by giant pillows and pig out on snacks Mom made at home. I can’t be certain but I’d assume my ever-so-classy parents were enjoying a nice box of Franz as well.

Really – it was a great time.

Jealous of my childhood and want to enjoy a similar entertaining and cuddly time in LA? Hit up the Outdoor Cinema Food Fest this summer!

.

Every Saturday over the course of the summer (July 10th – August 28th) the Outdoor Cinema Food Fest will be showing a new feature film at a local LA park (see the schedule below). Even better than my childhood cheeze-its and peanut butter apple slices: the movies will be accompanied by a slew of food trucks & a wine bar to keep you fat, tipsy, & happy while you enjoy the show!

.

Tickets: $8 (Group Rate for 4+, $5/ea)

Times: Grounds Open 6pm, Show Starts at 8:30pm

.

The full list of participating food trucks can be found online.

.

Want to go to the Outdoor Cinema Food Fest for FREE?! We’re giving away 15 pairs of free tickets to this Friday’s INVITE ONLY Preview in Downtown LA (7/9/10) featuring the film Walk The Line!!!

Yes, our very first attempt to throw exclusive free shit at you in return for some loyal readership 🙂

.

What do you need to do to win tickets? Two options:

1. Comment on this article & tell us why you love us so much (yes we are totally vain). Make sure to also leave your email so we can notify you if you win!

2. ReTweet the following message : I wanna win FREE tix to OutdoorCinemaFoodFest’s INVITE ONLY Preview this Friday Nite so I can get drunk+fat  w/ @finerthingsla, RT to win! “

.

We’ll randomly draw 15 people by Thursday evening (7/8/10) and let you know that you won – then we’ll need to get some contact info from ya so our buds over at Loft Marketing can send you the free tickets & event details, location, & times for Friday night’s preview!

There’s going to be some great food trucks there for this preview (including The Grilled Cheese truck, India Jones, World Fare & Others) so you won’t want to miss it (and general folk ain’t allowed in so you NEED our freebies to get entry!)

This seems like such a non-LA experience to us – and we love it! Can’t wait to grab our blankies (and hopefully some men) and cuddle up for the movie – plastic glass of wine & taco truck taco in hand. Yum.
